Tunics and Body Type

The tunic is easily one of the most versatile pieces in any wardrobe.  Even then, not everyone knows how to wear a tunic or what to pair it with. Sure, it can be difficult to understand just how versatile any garment can be, particularly if you are only used to seeing these garments on the bodies of runway models and store mannequins.

Indeed, any body type can be flattered by Yvonne Marie tunics for women: you just have to know how to wear them.  Keep in mind that tailoring is always better, but if you can start with these ideas:

PEAR SHAPE

Tunics with the side vents (intended to prevent the garment from clinging to the thighs and the rear) and a slight taper at the waist should serve you best. Look also for a wide neck that will broaden your shoulders; it will give more of an hourglass illusion.  When you wear the tunic, make sure it falls either above or below your widest area. Consider also wearing “chunky” jewelry around the neck (or maybe a scarf or other accouterment) to help focus attention upward.

APPLE SHAPE

If you have an apple shape, you should generally avoid clingy tops. Pick garments that place more focus on your neckline and legs, thus a tunic with a V-neck that is not too long.  Smaller patterns and darker colors provide a slimming effect. In this case, though, you would want to refrain from using long chunky jewelry and opt for earrings and a shorter necklace instead.

HOURGLASS

As with many other women’s garments, the fitted tunic best fits an hourglass figure. However, this body type can wear a looser-fitting tunic, too; just make sure it is not oversized or you will lose the silhouette.

FULL FIGURE

Full figured women often have the misfortune of clothing that is designed to simply fit loosely; and is often poorly shaped or sized for their body type. The right tunic, though, could provide some relief from this issue, but you have to find one that is just the right balance of clingy and loose.  Exposed collar bone and wrists help to slim the silhouette, as do smaller prints and dark colors.

PETITE

Most tunics might be too long for this body type, but don’t let that deter you.  A longer tunic might actually work well as a dress alternative, especially if you add a belt to give it some shape.  Also, you can always tailor/shorten something that is just a tad too big.
